Deb's Sweet Treats

School is out for the 2012 school year and as I see it, it is time for this girl to pursue a dream.  Ever since I can remember I have always loved to do crafts and cook.  A few years ago I lost my job and was faced with the question.... 'What should I do???'  Jobs weren't, and still are not, very plentiful here so I made a decision to go back to school and get my degree in Culinary Arts.

Well I finished school and had to get a job and luckily got a position working at one of the local high schools here.  I have been there two years now and while I do enjoy the people I work with, I am not truly happy with my job.

The fact is, I want to create and be my own boss.  The American dream, right?

Well, a few months ago I decided to try my hand at baking and making cookie bouquets. Its something I love and it lets me do two of my favorite things.... bake and create!

The last few months have been pretty busy for me and it seems that people are loving the idea of being able to give something other than flowers for birthday, anniversary and other holidays!

Here is a sample of a bouquet I did for my nephew's 8th grade graduation.

I also ended up doing eight others that were similar for a high school graduation.  My favorite cookie to do was the custom 'yellow jacket'.

The customer was thrilled that I was able to come up with something of the school's mascot for the bouquet.  I thought they turned out pretty good myself because when I first started making them... I wasn't too sure.

I love baking and making the decorated sugar cookies and hope to be able to do them full time.  Right now my job is only part time and since school is out for summer vacation, I have almost three months to make my dream of 'Deb's Sweet Treats' a reality.

Right now I am testing several new recipes, including some cupcakes too!

My hope is to sell my cookies and bouquets locally and by mail order.  Wish me luck!

I also hope to share tricks I learn and introduce some of the wonderful and helpful people I have been blessed to meet.  I don't know all the answers, because I still have LOTS to learn,  but what I do know I will gladly try to pass along to help.

Let's go bake!
